Unless you already have a vested interest in American football, the Super Bowl is likely to be something you don't know much about, other than the fact Beyoncé will be shaking her sexy tail feather at half-time.

In the latest issue of FHM, American Football TV anchor Nat Coombs tells us all we need to know, so that we can get involved this year. Here's three things we learned...

01 Each team consists of three units: the offence, who score points; defence who stop the offence; and the special teams. This is a unit made up of backup players that don't start games but will come out at certain passages of play, e.g. they'll come out during a kick to create a path for a runner through the defence, and once the play is over, return to the sidelines...

02 The average cost for 30 seconds of advertising during the Super Bowl is $3,800,000. Once you've wrapped your head around that, watch some of the funniest Super Bowl ads of all time...
