Set in the frozen-over-hell that is Tau Volantis, you play as protagonists Isaac Clarke and John Carver. Your mission, once again, is to battle the Necromorphs - reanimated corpses, disfigured by extraterrestrial infection.
Dead Space 3 is the biggest new release of the year and part of one of biggest franchises of the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 generation. It's still sticking in the gaming top 10s and we know three reasons why...
01 The care taken over detail and atmosphere is, much like the rest of the series, exceptional. Dead Space 3 is on a mission to terrify you without letting you look away and does so by immersing you in something, quite simply, cinematic.
02 Online co-op has been introduced and it's better than anybody anticipated. Much like 3D, co-op modes are regarded with a degree of cynicism, but it almost acts as a much-needed cathartic shift to take a buddy with you to take on the Necromorphs. Much like the Zombies mode in Call of Duty, a hell of a lot more enemies get thrown at you and the cold, creepy atmosphere of Dead Space 3 transforms into sheer mayhem. There's also additional gameplay and weaponry mechanics available through this mode, so you get a lot more out of the game.
03 There's a new weapons upgrade system. You can also take your weapons apart, take the best parts of one and add it to another. You can even craft your own gun by picking up scraps from the Dead Space 3 world. If that sounds like a lot of hard work, you can still upgrade online, but the new weapons bench of Dead Space 3 creates endless possibilities.
