It's been a bad year for men. Aside from a series of particularly heinous headline-grabbing crimes, we were underperforming all round. Tadpole-counting scientists reported that average sperm counts had dropped 29% since 1989. Suicide rates among young males were running at three times that of young women, while adverts and TV shows reinforced the perception of us as ham-fisted dolts, forever fumbling with bra straps, forgetting women's birthdays and failing to work the washing machine.

But we accept our limitations here at FHM. As this competition proves, there are certain things that we're not just as good at as women. Peeping coyly over one shoulder, for example. Kneeling in the surf pulling a bikini at a jaunty angle. Roaring in mock-orgasmic ecstasy while wearing a 'hand-bra... we're not to proud to 'tap out' when the ladies have got us beaten.

But don't view this year's 100 Sexiest Women rundown as an admission of our weaknesses. Oh no. View it instead as a celebration of women. When it comes to flashing copious amounts of cleavage peering seductively through heavily made-up lids and pouting like orangutans drinking hot tea, the fairer species have got it covered. Enjoy 2008's top ten.
