Why we love Lana Del Rey
Lana Del Rey first entered our eyes and ears in the summer of 2011, when the moody, lo-fi video for Video Games went mega-viral and took over the internet (it’s currently on a whopping 35million YouTube views, and counting). We were instantly mesmerised: not only was Video Games light-years ahead of the usual ‘Shakin’ my bumcheeks in da club woo yeah’ fare churned out by wannabe pop-starlets, but it was also being sung by the hottest, moodiest, poutiest girl we’d seen in eons. She looked like she’d break your heart and then steal your car, and we defy anyone not to find that massively sexy.
Lana proved she was no one-viral-hit wonder with an entire album – Born To Die – of sad-faced, elegantly-wasted brilliance. Looks like she’s here to stay – but if she ever finds herself in need of yet another doomed relationship to write some epically sad songs about, she knows where to find us.
