Big-time successful pop lady Rita Ora is signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label.
Back in 2009, before finding fame as a singer, Rita appeared in a CK perfume advert, dancing around in her undercrackers.
She used to date serial hat-botherer Bruno Mars.
Hip-pop songstress Rita Ora is the best thing to happen to the UK charts in ages; the perfect mixture of catchiness, coolness, prettiness and nice-hairness. But the whole fame ‘n’ fortune thing almost never happened for her: back in 2009, an unknown entered a competition to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest, and made it through to the final stages before withdrawing, on account of realising that the Eurovision Song Contest was a load of old shit, and that if she took part she would never be considered cool by anyone, ever. “I didn’t want to be a part of something that I didn’t creatively control,” she recalls. “I said to myself, ‘If I’m meant to do this, and I’m as good as I think I am, someone will notice me.’”
And someone did – and lucky for Rita that someone was Jay-Z, who took her under his wing, mentored her, and signed her to his label, Roc Nation. “Everything about Jay is cool,” says Rita of her boss. “Even the way he stands. He just stands there, and he’s cool. Just swagged out.” Alright, alright – you trying to get a raise or a day off out of him or something?
