Why we love Amelle Berrabah
Oh would you look at that, it’s another Sugababe. The fact that the members change is almost as certain as the fact that each new member has to be hotter than the last. And here we have Amelle Berrabah, who is technically the fifth member of the band, having replaced Mutya Buena in 2005.
Having been born and raised in Aldershot, she didn’t make any dramatic move to the other side of the world in order to pursue her love of music. Nah, she nabbed herself a scholarship and travelled all of the 11.3 miles to Guildford. Why not eh? There she formed a band with her sister, which was called Boo2… make of that what you will. She did benefit from the whole reality search time though, winning one called Star Search in 2003, but it didn’t do much for her.
In fact, it was the ridiculously named band that helped give her a break – the Sugababes manager had seen Boo2 perform and liked Amelle, so when original member Mutya Buena popped out a kidda and left the group she was invited to audition and became the new member. Her joining was pretty boring compared to the way Jade Ewen hooked up with the group, but she’s not been too far away from controversy since then. She was arrested twice in nine months over allegations of assault and criminal damage, but both times she was fully acquitted. She wasn’t so lucky in 2010 though when she was banned for drink-driving. Naughty naughty.
