Why we love Catherine Zeta-Jones
A nauseatingly enthusiastic stage school kid, Catherine appeared in local productions of Annie and Bugsy Malone before hitting the West End. She came to public attention with British TV show The Darling Buds of May, then there was a part in odd comedy film Splitting Heirs, before proper popcorn movie, The Phantom. Steven Spielberg recommended her for a part in The Mask of Zorro and she appeared in the sequel too, but it was a catsuit in Entrapment that made her.
Michael Douglas noticed and after starring together in Traffic they got married and had kids. And the stage school paid off with a part as Velma Kelly in Chicago, winning a ‘best supporting’ Oscar. She can do the splits and Michael Douglas is 25 years older than her. These are the things that will puzzle future historians.
