Why we love Chelsy Davy
Frequently described as “wild and bubbly” and “the Paris Hilton of Zimbabwe,” Chelsy Davy is the polar opposite of Prince William’s honey, the elfish and prim Kate Middleton. And she suited Harry to a tee – since hooking up in 2004 the pair were seen boozing at London nightclubs, holidaying all over the world, and – rarely, for royalty – been snapped getting steamy by eagle-eyed paparazzi.
Chelsy Davy first caught Harry’s eye when the royal ginger was out partying with his mates at a club in Cape Town; Harry spotted her from the VIP room and, commendably, shouted out to the blonde that she should come join him. His catch wasn’t on the official list of safari’s Big Five, but he wasn’t far off: Chelsy’s dad is one of the largest private landowners in Zimbabwe, a situation that we imagine comes with its own unique set of pros and cons.
But sadly the dream wasn’t to last. The couple had an off, rumoured to be on again relationship for some time. But it was 2011s royal wedding that was the nail in the coffin for the lantern jawed pair. Terrified that a life of royal duty might stop her from being able to compete in the vodka luge, Chelsy Davy threw in the Harvey Nichols towel. According to the Daily Mail, Davy told friends ‘There’s no way we are getting married. It’s not a life for me.’ That’s commitment to the party.
