Why we love Emily Browning
Emily Browning has always seemed destined to be on the world stage as an actress. Even though she wanted to be a fashion designer when she grew up, it’s rumoured that she was spotted showing potential at the age of eight in a school play, and that the dad of one of her classmate’s told her she should go in to acting. Either way, what is true is that she made her debut when she was just nine in the television movie Echo of Thunder, and then went on to secure a recurring role in the Australian police drama Blue Heelers. All before she was 14.
She was pretty big-time from an early stage too, starring alongside Billy Connolly in The Man Who Sued God when she was 13, and having a part in Ned Kelly two years later – which also featured Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom. She seemed to disappear off the screens in 2006 for a spell, and that’s because she did. Emily took a three year break to finish school, seeing as her early acting successes had impacted on her studies. She returned in 2009 with her biggest role to date, the lead in the horror movie The Uninvited.
Where we got really interested though was when we started seeing the trailer’s for 2011’s Sucker Punch. Described as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns” by the film’s director and writer, it basically sees a very hot Emily Browning lead a cast of other hot girls (including Vanessa Hudgens) in to battle. Browning also appeared in Sleeping Beauty an unsettling little film where she plays a sort of prostitute who specialises in being asleep while wealthy perverts, y’know, do stuff. It’s kind of creepy, and there’s no music which feels weird. But she’s super good at acting.
