She fell off the stage one night while performing in Whistle Down The Wind, leading Andrew Lloyd Webber to fret that she was going to sue him.
Now we don’t all that often describe glossy pop singers as singer-songwriters, but Jessie J is definitely one, because she’s written songs for a lot of people – a lot of big-name, big-deal people, such as Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus and Chris Brown, all of them wanting a bit of the J’s lyrical genius. In fact, Jessie wrote her debut single Do It Like A Dude with Rihanna in mind, but then she kept it for herself.
Unlike many songwriters, however, Jessie doesn’t get her inspiration from necking fistfuls of drugs, nor can she knock back a few stiff ones before heading out on stage: she had a minor stroke at 18 and has heart problems that mean she can’t drink, smoke or take drugs. She can’t even have caffeine. So she’s as straight-edge as you are going to find, and when she eventually appears on stage in a buttock-less PVC catsuit with a huge leopardskin “J” across the front (mark our words – it’s gonna happen) she’s going to have made that decision fully sober. Fair play.
