Why we love Karolina Kurkova
It looked like modelling was going to be on the cards from a young age for Karolina Kurkova. In fact, seeing as her dad was a Czech basketball player, she was literally going to grow up to be a model. Kids can be so cruel though, and her height was an issue, until one of her friends sent photos of her in to a modelling agency, and wheels were set in motion.
At 15 she had already been in Vogue once, but after she made a permanent move stateside she found herself on the cover two years later. And it wasn’t just Vogue that were working her young; she was even in the 2000 Victoria’s Secret fashion show, being broadcast around the world online at the age of 16. Big time. She was soon modelling for all of the big fashion names - Chanel, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren - and she became a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2005.
By 2007 she was one of the world’s most famous and rich models, having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and earning an estimated $5 million. In the same year she made her move in to the film industry, debuting in My Sexiest Year and later appearing in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but we can’t comment on her performance in either. But let’s just assume she acts as good as she looks and deserves an Oscar. She put her talents to further use by becoming a guest judge on America’s Next Top Model, because she knows what ‘it’ is.
