Why we love Malin Akerman
It’s an age old story – Swedish daughter of a part-time model moves to Canada, works as a model, quits at twelve, takes it up again in order to pay for her training as a child psychologist, appears in some adverts, gets offered some more acting roles, appears alongside Angel from Buffy, some other stuff happens, is in Harold and Kumar go to White Castle, works with Ben Stiller, is funny, gets the part of Silk Spectre in , makes fanboys balls explode all over the world. Dickens himself couldn’t have written this shit.
That’s right, Malin Akerman was very nearly the little actress that didn’t. If it wasn’t for a trifecta of events – her being dead good at acting, her enjoying it, being really hot – she might not have ended up on our screens. But she did. Most notably as the improbably heeled for a vigilante, Silk Spectre, in the excellent Watchmen, in which also dated Dr. Manhattan, who’s like a really smart Smurf that’s been on the D-Bol.
Just right now around the time of typing of this, Malin Akerman can be seen as a sexy hippy in Wanderlust with the excellent Paul Rudd, and the attractive but crying inside Jennifer Anniston. And after that? Pretty much everything, because Akerman, according to IMDB, is in not one but ten-ty films! Including the big screen adaptation of Rock of Ages with Tom Cruise taking the role of Stacie Jaxx (the same role Shayne Ward has in the West End), and also Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story in which she’ll play the eponymous porn starlet. Hooray.
