Marion Cotillard facts

  • She joins Sophia Loren as only the second actress to win an Oscar performing in a language other than English for her role as Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.

  • At the Berlin International Film Festival, where the film premiered, Marion was given a 15-minute standing ovation.

  • Her two younger brothers, Guillaume and Quentin are identical twins.

  • She's a Leeds United fan. You've got Eric Cantona to thank for that.

Why we love Marion Cotillard

She may be best known for her Oscar-winning role as Edith Piaf in worthy mum-flick La Vie En Rose, but we preferred Mlle Cotillard’s performance in the French film Pretty Things, in which she went topless.

More recently though she's been appearing in a host of big-name films, such as Nine (alongside Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman) and Leonardo Di Caprio's Inception.

The 33-year-old actress is also a well-known conspiracy nut. On a French TV interview last year she questioned the official version of events of both 9/11 and the moon landings. This probably explains her fondness for Radiohead and her general interest in all things environmental. Still, we say you can’t beat a raven-haired gobby girl, especially if she comes with a sexy French accent and a penchant for undressing on screen.
