Why we love Perrie Edwards
Perrie Edwards is part of 2011 X Factor-winning girl group Little Mix (formerly known as Rhythmix), and considered by many to be the lead singer of the group. Despite coming from a musical background – her dad, Alexander, performs in a band called Alexander's Palace, and her mum was a singer too – Perrie always thought of herself as a “normal” singer, having done stage shows but always standing at the back of the stage.
With the confidence gained by getting together with the other girls in the group, Perrie came out of her shell and went down a hit with the opposite sex – according to her other band members, she's always the centre of male attention. She even dated Zayn Malik from miniature pop-band One Direction, but they split up so she could concentrate on her music. Good excuse, there, Perrie. We'll have to remember that one in future.
Aside from that whole “recording contact” thing, Perrie's ambition before she won the X Factor was for the whole group to go on holiday, should they win the contest – and for all of their mums to come too. Aw. Isn't that sweet?
Perrie took it upon herself to come up with Spice Girls-esque nicknames for her band, naming herself “Boho Mix,” Jade Thirlwall “Cutie Mix,” Jesy Nelson “Swagger Mix” and Leigh-Anne Pinnock “Fiery Mix”. Hats off for effort, but they all sound a bit like different kinds of Haribo to us. “One packet of Swagger Mix,” we'd say, and stride out of the corner shop like a Blacksploitation pimp.
