Why we love Renee Olstead
If we said to you that Renee Olstead was a young American singer who was releasing music when she was eleven and had her first main self-titled album at the age of fifteen you’d probably go straight to another Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera or Miley Cyrus. But no, this is no Disney incarnation; Renee’s music is a million miles away from that kind of teen pop. Well, maybe not a million miles, but it is different; it’s jazz. With a bit of pop.
Renee was in to acting from an early age, showing up in adverts and films from the age of six, including roles in Schwarzenegger’s End of Days when she was ten and Space Cowboys with Clint Eastwood and Tommy Lee Jones a year later. It was around this time that she started releasing her first musical efforts too, calling music her real passion. We’re assuming that she’s pretty good, seeing as she appeared in Berlin during Live 8 in 2005 and also performed on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
To be fair there hasn’t been much opportunity for you to notice Renee; her music doesn’t stick over here and the television series that helped her to become a famous name in the States Still Standing doesn’t air in the UK either. Well it might on some obscure satellite channel but we haven’t seen it. Plus she was only 17 when that finished, so you’re better off only discovering her now too, the best years are yet to come.
