Why we love Rooney Mara
Rooney Mara has been doing alright for herself in the face of family pressure as the younger sister of fellow actress Kate Mara. It’s some pretty heavy family pressure too, because they’re a bunch of high achievers are the Mara’s. How high achieving? Well Rooney Mara’s family own not one, but two American Football teams: the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants. Not bad going.
Rooney Mara took a bit of an odd route in to acting though. Rooney went through a normal childhood at High School, did some travelling and then went to University where she studied psychology, international social policy, and nonprofits. Sounds, um, wild. She’d steered clear of the acting career path as a child because she says “it never seemed that honourable to me” and that she was “always afraid that I might fail”. She did appear in a few student films at Uni before making the full move in to the industry after she graduated.
Rooney Mara starred alongside her sister Kate in Urban Legends: Bloody Mary, and then had a few appearances on television shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and ER. She moved in to bigger films with the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street and the Facebook-founding based The Social Network, and has the lead role alongside Daniel Craig in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. We bet she’s not afraid she might fail now, eh?
