Why we love Rosemary Vandenbroucke
FIRST APPEARED IN FHM SINGAPORE
You look hot in bikini. How many pairs do you own?
Tons of them.
Describe your favourite pair.
To be honest, I do not have a favourite right now. In Hong Kong, you seldom wear one except when you’re in a pool.
You also seem comfortable on the wakeboard. Are you the sporty type?
Absolutely. I’m crazy about sports. It’s my main pastime after work. I play ball, swim, run, bike...
Must your man share the same interests as you? And what else do you look for in a man?
Sport is important. As for men, I hate ’em!
But you’ve been romantically linked with models/actors. Would you date someone outside of showbiz?
Yeah, I’ve dated DJs and models. I suppose it’s more likely that you date people you bump into at work.
What would it be like having you as a girlfriend?
I am loyal.
We Googled your name and tons of sites came up. When you first started modelling, did you ever think you’d become this famous?
Nope. When I first started in 1996, I was just doing it for the money.
Your upcoming album is titled More Than Love. Tell our readers, what could be “more than love”?
It’s when you care for something or someone. In other words, if you care for them more than love.
You pen some of the songs and also play the guitar. Where do you get your inspiration?
Like many musicians, my guitar skill is more or less self-taught. As for musical inspiration, they come from the quiet, lonely, insecure moments I have sometimes.
With this second album, are you slowly moving away from modelling and going into singing full-time?
Wherever it takes me. Song writing is my passion.
How receptive are Hong Kong listeners towards a singer like you, someone of mixed parentage but sings in Mandarin and Cantonese?
You should ask them. Well, I learnt Cantonese from staying in Hong Kong, obviously. As for Mandarin, it’s actually been quite a struggle. But I have been taking language classes.
Veteran singer Alan Tam once commented that your music has “the style of Fleetwood Mac” and “rich in country style”. Do you think that was a fair description of your music?
Definitely. My first album Dreams Come True was a little folksy. So yeah, I guess it’s a fair description.
How would you describe your own music then?
I wouldn’t.
When do you think a model reaches her peak?
If you look at women who model for a career, they often work till their late 20s and, some, early 30s.
Do you ever worry that one day, you’ll get wrinkles, cellulite and saggy breasts?
Like all women, I do have insecurities about my body and stuff. But do I worry? No. Do I wonder? Yeah, sure.
