Why we love Sasha Grey
Sasha Grey is a former porn star. Or ‘adult actress,’ who took to intellectualising the bongo industry during her three year tenure as a performer, quoting New-Wave filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard in interviews and stating a desire to appear on the Howard Stern Show wearing nothing but the Palestinian flag (she thinks he’s a racist). Once quoted as saying she’s “determined and ready to be a commodity that fulfils everyone’s fantasies,” Grey was know to cater for all colours of the X-rated spectrum.
You might notice that all of that was in the past-tense. It’s because Sasha Grey threw in the towel (god, imagine the state of that towel…) in April 2011, ending her career in the adult film industry. Sasha Grey stated on her website – “It's become quite evident that my time as an adult film performer has expired. Don't worry, I haven't found Jesus. One thing is for certain, I'm proud to say I have no regrets, I genuinely feel I accomplished everything I could as a performer.”
But don’t worry, Sasha Grey is going nowhere. She’ll still be on your screens, but just with a little more clothing. She is a trained professional, having taken acting lessons for 10 years in Sacramento. And she appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience; her confident, if unspectacular, debut in mainstream cinema. She’s also been in Entourage, and will appear in I Melt With You alongside Rob Lowe and Jeremy Piven. She’ll also be in Inferno: A Linda Lovelace Story, which is pretty meta.
