The Miley Cyrus video footage above is taken from her performance at the Rock in Rio music festival in Madrid at the weekend. The 17-year-old, who will one day be an 18-year-old, wore a black leotard and high heels to sing hits such as Can’t Be Tamed, The Climb and When I Look at You in front of thousands of adoring young fans. It was, as you can see, mega. In the same way that her performance at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards (with the pole dancing and booty-shaking) was mega. It was just all sorts of mega.
But here are some facts for you. The Hannah Montana star’s post Disney sexy look might not be working out. Her Can’t Be Tamed album earned 72% less than her album from two years ago, Breakout, and 33% less than her most recent offering, Time of Our Lives, and a recent poll has found that that only 24% of teens said they ‘liked her’ or ‘liked her a lot’, compared with 45% in 2008. These are troubling times for Miley, in so far as a teenager with at least $50m in the bank could, you know, give a shit.
According to the probably unreliable internet, Miley is set to star in a big screen adaptation of the novel Wake by Lisa McMann. It’s about a 17-year-old called Janie, who has the ability to be transported into other people’s dreams, but must face the consequences of witnessing things she’s not supposed to see. Which is not entirely dissimilar to finding yourself sat in front of a nine minute video of a 17-year-old in a black leotard.
