Mum’s are great aren’t they? They look after you. They cook for you. They clean your clothes. They support you, emotionally and financially. And If your name's Beyonce Knowles, then they also design and make hotpants, tights and various other garishly-coloured garments for you to model for their clothing label, House of Dereon, which is set to launch in the UK next month. Okay, so that’s quite niche, but you get the point – mums are great.

That’s not to say we’d let them have any influence over our clothing, however, otherwise we’d probably be walking round dressed in the same clothes that our dads wear. That would be unthinkable. Socks and sandals are not a strong look, no matter who you are.

On the subject of spouses and marriage and all that boring stuff, we’re not quite sure why, given the fact that they’ve been married for absolutely age, Beyonce hasn’t taken her husband’s second name and become Beyonce-Z, or even Beyon-Z, or maybe even Bey-Z. It would give her an edge, we reckon, like Malcolm X or Suzy Q. They're cool, right?

One thing we are sure of, though, is that Jay is not a man who’s style is influenced by his mother. Well, he might, but we doubt Mummy-Z wore tailored suits and gold chains. She might, given the fact that she is the mother of the richest and arguably the most influential rapper in the world, but we doubt it.

Anyway, moral of this story: don’t take fashion advice off your mum, unless her name’s Tina Knowles, or Vivienne Westwood, or something.
