Taylor Momsen has gone from being preppy, self-obsessed Jenny Humphrey in the US TV programme Gossip Girl to the gothic frontlady of the rowdy rock band The Pretty Reckless in about two years.

We interviewed her once, in the back of a people carrier in the car park of the Notting Hill Arts Club, and we suggested that some people might assume her band are rubbish because of who she is and the TV programme she’s been in. She said: “I get that there is this 16-year-old blonde thing from and they’re expecting fucking pop shit, but it’s a rock band and it’s heavy. Our record is a life record. It confronts everything fucking head on. It’s death, love, drugs, sex, religion, politics.”

Then we cleverly avoided the pitfall of bringing Miley Cyrus up by asking her if people bring her and Miley Cyrus up in conversation at the same time a lot. She said: “They bring me up and every fucking Disney star there is the same age. I’m not dissing Miley personally. However, I do think the Disney bubblegum shit that the world is living right now is pathetic. I thought we passed that repression. I don’t know Miley, but musically we’re different. To compare us because of our age is silly.”

At this point we had a chat about the lack of angry female musicians I the world at the moment, and she said: “You know everyone says I’m really scary and shit, but I’m a fucking teenager and I’ve got a lot of fucking things to hate on.” Then we asked her what she’s angry about, and she said: “Fucking everything. I hate everything, I hate everyone. I don’t mean that. I love everyone. I love everything.”

It was a good chat.
