Look above, yeah. That’s the video for Nicki Minaj’s new song Your Love which is OUT TODAY and on her debut album Pink Friday (out November 23). Minaj is a badass Trinidadian American (born in Trinidad and Tobago, moved to America when she was 5) rapper whose real name is Onika Maraj. She’s the female who slays Kanye West, Jay-Z and Rick Ross in the song Monster. Listen:
ENORMOUS. 25-year-old Minaj has some excellent alter-egos. On the track Bottoms Up with a chap called Trey Songz, she calls herself Roman Zolanski. Swimming with LOLphins. She’s also got Harajuku Barbie (Harajuku is an area of the Shibuya war of Tokyo in Japan), and the name Nicki Minaj is, actually, not her real name, which is Onika Maraj.
Here’s another Nicki Minaj song, it's called Massive Attack:
You’ll note that she’s not afraid to ‘shake her booty’. She’s not shy:
Once, when talking about her sexual image to a magazine called Vibe, she said: “When I grew up I saw females doing certain things, and I thought I had to do that exactly. The female rappers of my day spoke about sex a lot... and I thought that to have the success they got I would have to represent the same thing. When in fact I didn’t have to represent the same thing.”
Then, to a magazine called Interview, she said: "I made a conscious decision to try to tone down the sexiness, I want people – especially young girls – to know that in life, nothing is going to be based on sex appeal. You’ve got to have something else to go with that.”
Here’s that Trey Songz tune:
Which is a bit rubbish apart from the Nicki Minja bit, which is amazing. GO ON NICKI MINAJ.
