Not that we mean to stoke the fire of course, but with all this blood and all this thunder flying about in recent Manchester City vs Manchester United derby games, we just thought we'd take a trip through the archives to see if we could find some of the best footage of the two enemies kicking the shit out of each other.

United notably have a history of saving their best wallops for the derby, with three in particular that are well worth a watch.

Known for smashing in the goals, and smashing up the booze, gorgeous Georgey Best also dabbled in the two-footed knee smash. This one from the 1970 derby broke City's Glyn Pardoe's leg.

If there is one lesson to take away from this next video, its don't piss Roy Keane off. Enter Alf-Inge Haaland who, while playing for Leeds in 1997, taunted the United skipper for feigning injury. So when the pair fronted up four years later in the Manchester derby, Keane ended his career – Chuck Norris style.

The first derby in 1881 was described as "a pleasant game" by the local paper, The Ashton Reporter. Fast forward to 2011 and this is now what happens when Paul Scholes does anything other than try to "dictate the play".
