It's already obvious that Deadpool 2 is going to continue its unique marketing campaign, as it offers up a couple of holiday gifts in the form of a new poster dubbed "The Second Coming", and a Tweet from actor Ryan Reynolds that shouldn't really surprise anyone.
And then there's the tweet that kind of makes it feel like Disneyland needs a shower:
It's this sort of approach that explains why the film's teaser trailer would say virtually nothing about the plot of the new film, and provide an even more-confusing plot synopsis. Welcome to the world of Deadpool.
Here's the description that 20th Century Fox has offered up: "After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.”
The film's first teaser was attached to last March's Logan in theaters. In it, our hero fails to save a mugging victim because he’s too busy trying to change into his costume in a phone booth.
Well, obviously, success has done nothing to blunt the subversive humor of Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With A Mouth, Wade Wilson—and thank God for that. All we’d need is some studio honcho to decide that they were lucky the first time out with an R-rated superhero movie, and that they’d need to go more mainstream with the sequel.
Well, it ain’t gonna happen.
When Deadpool was released last February, it took a lot of the audience by surprise, particularly considering how botched Reynolds’ first appearance as a different form of the character was in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
From the first frames of the film, it was obvious that this was going to be different than any other superhero film—or hero—out there.
Deadpool 2 has been in production for a while now, and details are slowly being revealed, the most recent of which is that the first photo of Zazie Beetz as Neena Thurman/Domino has been released. Part of the X-Men in the comics, Domino — besides being an amazing fighter and an ace sharp-shooter — is a mercenary who has the mutant ability of manipulating luck. She also happens to be the sometimes girlfriend of the film's villain, Cabel (Josh Brolin). The actress portraying her is German-born and her most prominent role to date as been in the TV series Atlanta. Ryan Reynolds tweeted the following image, commenting, "Some people just know how to work a red carpet."
What follows is our guide to everything we know about the upcoming film so far—which is set to release sometime in 2018.
