Fashion is terrifying, isn’t it? Full of pitfalls and potential faux pas. Remember that time you got NSYNC-esque blonde tips at school and even the dinnerladies took the piss out of you? Still hurts, doesn’t it? But not nearly as much as the long-lasting medical complaints caused by your old nad-stranglingly tight drain-pipe jeans.
Fact is: Fashion is hard and you need help.
With that in mind, we’ve enlisted the help of personal stylist Shaunie from Thread to walk us through the five things that we should NEVER DO EVER AGAIN EVER OKAY?
“Simon Cowell is the ultimate fashion villain in so many respects – but his worst offence? Scuffed jeans. Don’t just let your oversized denim tread underneath your heels - it’ll end up straggly and horrible. Combine with pointed shoes, and you’re on your way to looking like the X-Factor boss. Fold them up, or invest in a quality, fitted pair.”
“Get the shoes wrong, and you run the risk of ruining everything. A good pair of shoes, on the other hand, can completely rescue an outfit. The worst look? Pointed shoes with bootcut jeans. That is the single worst thing you can do.”
“Wearing brown and black leather in the same outfit is a big no-no. Black shoes and a brown belt, for example. It looks messy – and stupid. Strive to make your look super clean wherever you can.”
“A graphic tee never looks as good as it would without the graphic on it. Even if it’s dedicated to your favourite show – bin it. You shouldn’t be pledging allegiance to things with your clothes anyway – clothes are about you, and your identity.”
“If you’re gonna grow a big beard, keep it neat. There’s nothing worse than a huge, unkempt, out of control monstrosity on your chin. You should never let it interfere with your clothes either – it’s like a belt for the face, so you need to factor it in as an accessory”
