Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin is, without a doubt, one of the most accomplished individual players in NHL history. That's not a knock on the guy, but, the fact of the matter is, that he's enjoyed a ton of personal accomplishments but very little team success.
This season was no different for Ovie and his Caps, with the squad finishing with the most regular season points in the entire league for the second-straight year, only to still fail to even reach the Conference Finals—something an Ovechkin-led team has yet to ever do.
That said, there's no questioning Ovechkin's toughness, as he, like a few other NHL players did, sucked up injuries to play when their bodies were at the most worn down, with Ovie admitting last week that he suited up despite both knee and hamstring injuries—although neither one will require surgery.
So, how bad were these bruises? Lucky for us, Alex's wife Nastasiya took to social media to show just how awful one of them is, as she posted her husband's gnarly hamstring injury to her Instagram story this past Friday—and, as you can see, it's really gross.
Sure, some of the Capitals postseason struggles can be attributed to bad luck, but, let's not kid ourselves, given the consistency with which it happens each year, maybe it's just time to recognize Alex Ovechkin doesn't have that "next" gear some of the special ones have during the most intense moments.
Whatever you claim, the guy's a f-cking gamer, guys, especially if he was skating around with a bruise that looked like that for the past few months. I mean, I knew hockey players were tough and all, but Oveckin's injury resembles a painting that saw the artist just toss a bunch of black and blue and purple colors onto the canvas without any direction at all.
Anyway, while Alex Ovechkin's injury was nasty, at least it wasn't as bad as Zach Werenski's, who saw his eye get mangled after taking a puck to the face during a playoff game last month.
Man, this is just another reminder that pro athletes are tougher than nails.
