I've mentioned plenty of times how actress/musician Jennifer Lopez has long been my all-time crush. No joke, ever since I saw her in a music video back in, like, seventh grade, J-Lo pretty much had me. I know, I'm sure I'm not alone in that claim.
Currently dating former MLB slugger Alex Rodriguez now, Jennifer Lopez seems to have found someone she's pretty happy with, as both A-Rod and herself have lots in common. Bummer for me. That said, Rodriguez described a story about their first date that's both hilarious and a little embarrassing — for him, anyway — but is something most men can (probably) to. Yep, it's an awkward first date story, guys.
Talking to Vanity Fair, Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez didn't hold back about their first date — which, according to the Vanity Fair piece (and the two megastars) included a random text from A-Rod while in the bathroom.
Jennifer Lopez: "I think he thought I was going to be this loud person, but I'm not," Lopez said. "I just listen. So he's talking, talking about his plans, about how he had just retired from baseball, about how he saw himself getting married again, all these things you wouldn't normally talk about on a first date. I don't know if he thought it was a date. I thought it was a date. Then I knew he was nervous because he asked me if I wanted a drink. I said, 'No, I don't drink,' and he asked if I minded if he had one. He was nervous, and it was really cute."
Alex Rodriguez: "I didn't know if it was a date," Rodriguez said. "Maybe we were seeing each other at night because of her work schedule. I went in uneasy, not knowing her situation."
He said he "had to get up and go re-adjust my thoughts" when Lopez mentioned she was single. This prompted him to send her a text message from the bathroom.
Jennifer Lopez: "So I'm sitting there and he's walking back, and I get a text," Lopez continues. "It says..." She looks significantly at Rodriguez. "You can tell her!" he says. "'You look sexy AF,'" she tells me. They both laugh. "And then it took a turn," Lopez says. "The fire alarm went off, and we had to evacuate." I laugh, thinking she's being metaphorical. "No, really," she says. "The fire alarm went off!"
Wow. Guys, a man who has dated plenty of women in his day and even tried picking up ladies during a playoff game he was playing in by sending them a ball with his number on it, really did this. And to Jennifer Lopez, no less!
So, the next time you feel bad about a first date and think it's going poorly, just remember that even Alex Rodriguez gets flustered on them. Of course, his is with J-Lo and not someone he met on a random dating app, but, hey, it still counts in my eyes!
