There are a lot of women out there, especially in the modeling industry, who try their best to look and act like someone else. Want to know who seems to be herself — and proud of it, at that — the stunning model, Ashley Alexiss, who went from "just another one of the sexy Instagram models" to a full-fledged superstar thanks to her hard work and desire.
Described as a plus-sized model, Ashley Alexiss is as confident and sexy as a woman comes, unafraid to flash her million-dollar smile for the camera while showing that curvy is champion. And, based off of her 1.2 million Instagram followers, plenty of people agree with that notion.
Lucky enough to sit down to talk with Ashley Alexiss, we asked the lovely lady all sorts of things to get to know her beyond just the pics that she posts. From dating to sliding into DMs to what she has coming in 2018, the plus-sized model talked to us about a few things that only make us adore her even more. But, sorry guys, she's got that don't talk to me on her finger now. We know, our hearts are broken, too.
FHM: So, Tell Us, How'd You First Get Into Modeling? Did You Feel Any Pushback From The Industry Or Other Models 'Cause You're Considered Plus-Size?
Ashley Alexiss: "Getting into modeling was almost an accident. I participated in the Miss Teen Massachusetts pageant and won Miss Congeniality and did a photoshoot shortly after. Once I heard the camera shutter, I just kind of knew this is what I wanted and set out to achieve success. I would book 8-10 photoshoots a week to build my portfolio, I moved to California for college to be in the middle of everything, and just worked at it day in and day out. It's a hustle and I still treat it as that."
"When it comes to pushback, it seems that comes from society more than the industry or other models. Of course, you have your photographers who think they're too good to shoot plus-size, but that's their prerogative. I don't take it personally, because I want to work with someone who I vibe with and has a positive atmosphere. Society seems to not have a real understanding of the whole "plus-size" movement. I get told I'm fat and obese one day and get told I'm too small to be considered plus-size another day. It's really a lose/lose, so you have to really have a firm understanding of who you are. Being plus-size represents a variety of sizes and shapes and I do my best to spread that message, along with my message that 'Beauty is Not a Size.'"
FHM: How Do You Keep Your Confidence Intact With All That?
Ashley Alexiss: "Keeping my confidence in check is always tricky because, as I said, it's a lose/lose if you focus on what people are saying. I know I'm not everyone's cup of tea, hell I know if I walked on water there would be people saying it's because I can't swim, so I don't let it get in the way of my journey. I'm enough for me and I love me. I love me enough for society, so those who don't, well, their loss."
FHM: Given Both Your Modeling And Social Media Success, You Have To Get Dudes Sliding Into Your DMs On The Reg! How Do You Handle The Particularly Creepy Ones? How About Any Hate Mail?
Ashley Alexiss: "Ah, yes, good ol' creepy DMs... THEY ARE NEVER ENDING! It's something you sign up for in this industry. I don't condone it, but I also know I can't really control it. It is what it is. Sometimes, I have my fun and reply back to dick pics, asking the guy what their success rate was for getting a chick through the Internet with that. I mean, it's amazing the things I've heard and seen just in my DMs alone."
"Then you have the other side, hate mail; which are usually from troll accounts. I laugh because I put it in the perspective that these people have enough time to make a troll account, check up on my life and then message me to try and bring me down. I'm more jealous that they have that kind of time to do that. They're wasting valuable nap time!"
FHM: We Just Saw On Your Instagram That You're Engage, Breaking The Hearts Of Men Everywhere. First Off, Congrats! Second, What Advice Would You Give Single Guys Looking For The Right Lady For Themselves?
Ashley Alexiss: "Thank you! I love my Travis and everything that we have endured. I believe he makes me a better woman, model, entrepreneur and overall human being. To men, make sure that if you want a good woman, that you, yourself, are a good man. It took Travis and I a lot of trials and tribulations to get to where we are because we had a lot of self-learning to do, and I think many single men (and women) jump into things without being truly happy within themselves. I'm no Dr. Phil, but when you're in the right place, you have the ability to better one another, and that's what makes a growing and happy relationship. Also, don't stop trying once you get the guy (or girl). That would be the best advice I could offer.
