I'm neither for or against getting married — if you love someone and you feel as though that particular commitment is necessary, go for it! If you love someone and feel as though there's no need for the whole shebang, fine by me! Relationships are nothing if not subjective to the couple. There's no paramount rule for any two people when it comes to monogamy, this isn't my opinion — this is fact.
I will say however, that getting engaged is incredibly stressful and if you want to test your relationship to the fullest — go ahead and plan a wedding and see how far you make it. Sometimes it works and ends in a blissful evening you'll never forget and sometimes it crashes and burns with such vigor that you wonder why anyone on planet earth would willingly choose to ask someone to marry them. One such Reddit user, etonyx decided to make the latter pretty damn apparent when he posed the following question —
"Redditors who got engaged but it didn't last till the wedding, what happened?"
