Come Tuesday, January 9, CES 2018 will kick off and thus, the future of technology will commence. From driverless cars to smart houses, The International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is home to, as Gizmodo puts it, "175,000 industry insiders, exhibitors, and members of the media." If up until 30-seconds ago you had no idea that this conference existed, don't worry, you're not the only one. We're going to break down the various ins and outs simply, as to appeal to what we refer to as the, "technologically impaired". Hey! No judgement, not everyone wants to know how the damn gadget works, they just want to own it. We believe that's called consumerism, folks.

Some heavy-hitters attending CES include: Sony, Samsung, Google, LG, Dell, and Lenovo. CES is a trade-only event, meaning, the general public doesn't have access. That being said, a number of tech-centric publications will be on the floor updating consumers by the second.

Driverless Cars

Ford, BMW, Hyundai and Audi will all be featuring intelligent-car concepts, proving more and more that driverless cars are the future. The idea is that the smarthome will reside in the smartcity navigated by the smartcar. It may seem outlandish, but it's certainly not beyond comprehension as several manufacturers showcased self-driving cars last year as well. We can only assume they've become even more advanced.

Many tech-publications have joked that CES has become more or less a car show over the past few years and frankly, we're not complaining. The future of technology should continue to place an emphasis on travel — it's how we see the world!

Smart Home

According to CNET as per Intel, 2018 will be the year of connectivity. Asha Keddy, the head of Intel's connected devices and next generation networks, says:

"We're not just going to be connecting 6 or 7 billion people, we'll be connecting tens of billions of things. It will be phones, lights, cars, buildings, appliances, you name it."

This is going to stem far beyond smart refrigerators and app-controlled security systems, everything, yes everything, is going to be online in the near future. It's both terrifying and exciting, to be honest.

Virtual Reality and Entertainment

Even with all this amazing new tech, TVs are still a huge pull for the CES. LG has already teased a 88-inch 8K TV, the largest OLED set the company has every made. According to Techradar, Lenovo will likely be unveiling its Google Daydream headset — a standalone VR headset that runs the Daydream platform.

As you've most likely gathered by now, CES is an overwhelming, fast-paced event for the freakin' exhibitors and industry insiders, never mind the average person. We can ultimately assure you that anything worth knowing about the event will be plastered all of the media. You won't miss out on the latest greatest in anything — from intelligent breast pumps to devices like LinkSquare that determine if your food is safe for eating.
