It may not be you, but there's a good chance that you know somebody, or a lot of somebodies, who aren't too pleased with Donald Trump winning the election and becoming the United States' 45th President. There's at least one person who isn't protesting, rioting or sulking about the news, though—British billionaire Vincent Tchenguiz.
That's because, according to Joe.com, Tchenguiz was so confident that Trump would overcome the odds to shock the world to claim the election, that he tossed an extraordinary $439,000 for him to win. For his good faith, Vincent Tchenguiz walked away with winnings of over $1.5 million.
Vincent Tchenguiz put down £350,000 ($439,321) on the Republican candidate winning between brokers Betfair and Spreadex.
But after Trump swept home to beat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton in the 2016 US Election, the 60-year-old tycoon will be picking up a tidy £1.2m ($1,506,246) from his gamble.
"I’m surprised by how everybody is stunned that [Trump] actually won," he told Metro.
"I didn’t think that it was so black and white. But people are so shocked – I should have got much better odds."
"Am I happy? I’m not going to comment, happy or not happy."
"We’ll see where it goes. Some of his policies are pretty good, some he will have to tone down."
"There is going to be a lot of change."
Really? You're not going to comment on if you're happy or not? I've got a hunch that, after placing and winning that type of coin on Trump, you're probably pretty happy, Vincent.
So as much of the world's confused, frightened and unhappy with Donald Trump as the next U.S. President, Vincent Tchenguiz is likely celebrating his earnings, just on a low key level.
