The Backyard Scientist sent the dude at Demolition Ranch a solid block of lead to destroy with various fire arms. I don't know about you guys, but that sounds prettttyyyy awesome to me. While I'm vehemently anti-gun, myself, I can make exception for the purposes of science! Which, technically speaking, this video is. Take a look—
Now, the 500 Magnum isn't necessarily the largest gun that he used, but I found it to be the most impressive. Especially in regards to the damage it did to the lead. I know absolutely nothing about guns outside of being scared of them, so I had to do a little googling on this bad boy. According to the very handy Wikipedia—"The Smith & Wesson Model 500 is a five-shot, double/single action large-caliber revolver produced by Smith & Wesson, firing the .500 S&W Magnum cartridge, a .50 caliber bullet."
That means nothing to me. Perhaps researching the lead itself will prove more interesting—"Lead is a chemical element with atomic number 82 and symbol Pb. It is a heavy metal with a density exceeding that of most common materials; it is soft, malleable, and melts at a relatively low temperature."
Well, uh, that doesn't mean much to me either. I think it's safe to say that while both lead and 500 magnums are realllllY boring to read about, they're really f'in fun to watch. Kudos to Demolition Ranch for doing his thing. If we come across anything this killer in the future, we'll be sure to share with you guys.
On a final note, can we thank the Lord above that lead is no longer used in pencils and paint?! That shit is STRONG, just imagine what it does to the inside of a human.
