Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon have had an ongoing 'feud' for roughly the last eight-years. I'm quoting the term "feud" as there isn't really any malice between the two. If anything, the two of them share a hilarious, antic-filled, frenemy-type dynamic that has personally made me laugh my ass for almost a decade.
As per an interview on NPR taken from Uproxx, Kimmel details the history of how the whole Matt Damon thing came to be:
"We had a bad show. … The guests were bad, and I was feeling pretty bad about myself at the end of the program. And I decided to say, for the amusement of one of our producers who was standing next to me … ‘I want to apologize to Matt Damon. We ran out of time.’ … And he got a kick out of it, the producer, so I just started doing it every night to amuse him. Matt Damon was just the first name that popped into my head. I was trying to think of an A-list star, and somebody we absolutely would not bump if he was on the show. … The legs on this bit are unbelievable to me. I mean, people laugh every time I say it. … Repeating the same joke every single night, you’d think eventually people would get tired of it, but they don’t.”
Kimmel is always looking for excuses to "bump" or otherwise embarrass the crap outta Damon and his last episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live was no exception. So last week after The United Airlines scandal broke airwaves, Jimmy Kimmel went ahead and ran a parody ad for United. To highlight, it went a little something like this, "Give us a problem, and we’ll drag your ass off the plane."
This week he decided that Damon would make the perfect spokesperson for anything involving being dragged, bumped, or kicked off. Take a look, laugh, and appreciate one of Hollywood's greatest friendships and all the entertainment it brings into our lives.
