For those of you who think John Cena is just a WWE wrestler, think again. Cena has proven time and time over that he's an invaluable comedic asset to the Hollywood circuit. Appearing in laugh out loud films like Trainwreck, Daddy's Home and the upcoming blockbuster hit, Blockers, alongside Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz, Cena proves that despite his jock-looks, he's really the class clown.
That said, his size and affinity for kicking ass can't be ignored. That's why when it was time to cast the role of Duke Nukem for the upcoming film adaptation, Cena was the perfect fit. Producer Andrew Form confirmed to CinemaBlend,
"He is. Yes. We don't have a script yet, so that is confirmed at this point but if he reads the script and he doesn't like the script I'm sure there's ways that he could pull out, but right now he's our guy."
If you're not familiar with the character, no worries, we've got you covered. Duke Nukem was originally a video game series back in the '90s following the story of, you guessed it, Duke Nukem. As you saw in the image above, Duke was a real badass, take no crap kind of dude. Anyone who has seen John Cena in the ring can attest to the fact that he shares a similar temperament. Actually, who are we kidding? This casting is spot F'in on.
There has yet to be any confirmation on the movie's plot or release date, but producer Andrew Forum has alluded to creating a film similar to the feel of Deadpool. In fact, he's so focused on achieving that biting tone, that without it, the film might not happen. He explained, "I think we have to do that and if we don't get the tone right then we're not going to make the movie."
Well, here's hoping everything comes together and that John Cena makes for an awesome Duke Nukem. It's always great to see characters from our childhoods come back into play.
