Man Dubbed The 'Lion Of London' For Battling Machete-Yielding Terrorists With Bare Fists

The world as it stands is a scary place. There is truly no way of sugarcoating it. This fact has never been made more apparent than this past weekend, when mere weeks following the Manchester Bombing—"On 22 May 2017, a suicide bombing occurred at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England, following a concert by American singer Ariana Grande. Twenty-three adults and children were killed, including the attacker, and 119 were injured, 23 critically"—another attack hit England, this time in London.

I myself will never be able to wrap my mind around such senseless tragedy and I'm sure many of you share in that sentiment. Furthermore, I couldn't imagine what I would do in such a situation. Part of me believes I would be paralyzed by the fear, but I suppose it's hard to speculate, having never experienced it. For Roy Larner, his reaction was far from paralysis, in fact, he behaved in a way that can only be described as heroic.

He details the horrific details of that night to The Sun—“They had these long knives and started shouting about Allah. Then it was, ‘Islam, Islam, Islam’. Like an idiot I shouted back at them. I thought, ‘I need to take the p---- out of these b-----s’. I took a few steps towards them and said, ‘F--- you, I’m Millwall’. So they started attacking me.“I stood in front of them trying to fight them off. Everyone else ran to the back.I was on my own against all three of them, that’s why I got hurt so much. It was just me, trying to grab them with my bare hands and hold on. I was swinging.I got stabbed and sliced eight times. They got me in my head, chest and both hands. There was blood everywhere. They were saying, ‘Islam, Islam!’. I said again, ‘F--- you, I’m Millwall!’ It was the worst thing I could have done as they carried on attacking me. Luckily, none of the blows were straight at me or I’d be dead. All three were on me. I couldn’t hold them back. Two got past me and I was one-on-one. He kept slashing and hacking away at me. They were stabbing and slashing at me as I waved my arms for 20 or 30 seconds. There was loads of noise. No one knew what was happening. Then the bouncers tried to shut the door. The terrorists were pushing against the doors to get in. Everyone inside was running around in panic. A few tried to get out the back and others hid under tables or behind counters. The men then smashed open the door where I was standing. The three of them stood together."

His fearlessness, albeit ill-advised, prevented the terrorists from advancing toward other patrons and causing would what have undoubtedly resulted in more injury, or even death. It's men like him who without any obligation, make this world a safer place and are definitive proof that no matter how determined these proponents of evil try, you can never stifle the true nature of goodness.
