A Man's Guide To Spending: How To Limit Yourself To 50 Bucks On A Friday

You know how they say that those who can't do, teach? Well, that's about to go down right now. I can save money Monday-Thursday and then again on Saturday and Sunday, but I don't know, there's just something magical about Fridays that makes me feel like a young Donald Trump receiving a small loan of a million dollars from his father.

I've never been able to stop myself, but that doesn't mean I can't implore some wisdom on ya'll. As I said, I CAN and KNOW HOW to do it, I just don't want to. I guess that's a pretty crappy admission on my behalf. Okay, okay, I'll actually follow my own advice tonight, how's that? Let's hop to it then, shall we?

Stop Buying Women Drinks

Look, as a woman, I'm here to tell you that the likelihood of taking home a woman solely because you bought her booze is highly unlikely. Most ladies will accept your offer and then a find a reason to run away almost immediately. If you don't use alcohol as your opener, you'll 1) be forced to have a personality and 2) save yourself anywhere between 20-40 bucks (depending upon how desperate you normally behave in bars).

Eat At Home

If you're looking to spend only 50 bucks on a Friday, dinner is generally out of the question. McDonald's is an option, otherwise, just eat at home! If the ONLY plan you have is to eat out, then just do yourself and check out the menu before leaving your house. Stick to places with finger-foods, you know—tacos, pizza, wings.

It worked in high school and it works today, I promise. Drink a bit before you go out and ideally you won't drink as much when you're out. Of course, you'll have to buy the alcohol for the drinking at home part, but that's nothing! Figure it this way—a standard draft beer in Manhattan is what? 7-8 bucks? You can buy 6 beers for nearly that amount at the Bodega.

Happy Hour

I'm sorry this is so alcohol-centric, but honestly, what else do most working 20-somethings do on a Friday night? Unless you're in the program (no judgement) then your social life is most likely a series of bars. That being said, go out for happy hour. Half-priced everything is the ideal situation for someone trying to save. Common sense, but should be mentioned for posterity.

Do Something Other Than Drink

Go bowling! See a movie! Hell, take a walk. The world is full of viable options that don't involve a bar and better yet, that are far easier on the wallet. Movie tickets nowadays are between 12-20 bucks (depending upon where you live). Bowling will only cost you 30, tops. Taking a walk is free, unless you get mugged.
