McDonald's Turned Their Iconic Golden Arches Upside Down In Celebration Of Women Everywhere

For those of you who aren't aware, today is International Women's Day. While most of us are confined to more mild means of celebration — mostly through social media posts — McDonald's went for a much grander gesture. A gesture so grand, in fact, it might just turn your world upside down. In short, if you pass a McDonald's today with the arches flipped upside down — no, you aren't seeing things, and no, it isn't a prank.

Now, in the event you're a bit juvenile, you might be wondering, "Is that supposed to look like a woman's chest?" Despite the many rumors, no, the McDonald's logo today, or any other day, isn't supposed to represent cleavage — at least we don't think. The logo flip is meant to read "W" instead of the iconic "M". Simple, yet powerful, huh?

According to Business Insider, McDonald's global chief diversity officer, Wendy Lewis, said in a statement:

"In celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women's Day in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants."

This is one of the very few attempts in the last few months that honors women properly without being insulting. Take the recent release of a Pink IPA marketed as a "beer for girls". That's definitely not a way to go about it, guys. Women aren't asking for their own beer. We're sure they have no problem drinking the various beers that exist already.
