Long Hairstyles For Men That Should've Been Retired Years Ago

When it comes to long hairstyles for men, we're firm believers in the whole less is more approach. You don't need a complicated updo or intricate braiding to impress the ladies. Simplicity is your best friend here — write that down! If you happen to be walking around looking like Mel Gibson in Braveheart or David Spade in Joe Dirt, you should really consider reevaluating your life choices. #SorryNotSorry.

That being said, long hair can be difficult for most men. There's really no paramount rule that applies either, because every head is different — you've got thick long hair, thin long hair, curly long hairy, wavy long hair, straight long hair — the list is endless.

What we can say definitively that NONE of the styles in the video below should exist. Point, blank, period...

Now that you're aware of what to absolutely NOT do with your long hairstyling, we're going to go ahead and give y'all some tips on what WILL work!

Hairstyles For Men With Long Hair

Since we've already thrown out the man bun, the Fabio, the mullet, and of course the bowl/mushroom cut, we recommend styles a little more subtle, but still stylish. We believe men's long hairstyles look best at, or a little under shoulder length. Take Kit Harrington, more popularly known as Jon Snow from Game Of Thrones, as an example. His hair is the perfect combination of neatly-styled, but not too tight. You don't want to look like you're wearing a helmet of product. Of course, he has curls so the texture is different than someone with the straight hair, but the point remains — neat, but not too neat, slightly brushed back and at a flattering length.

Long Hairstyles For Men With Thick Hair

This applies to both men and women — ultimately the thicker your hair, the more difficult it'll be to handle when it's long. Despite the fact that long thick hair is an attractive feature, it's a real pain the butt. If you happen to have long thick hair, ask your barber or stylist to thin it for you. You can also go ahead and do it at home with a pair of thinning shears.

Headbands For Men With Long Hair — Yay Or Nay?

Unless you're a soccer player (and a really good looking one at that) we highly recommend against the headband as a stylistic choice. Of course, if you're playing a sport and you've got long hair — by all means, spare yourself the headache and wear one, but beyond that? Not a good look.
