For those unfamiliar with what Tai Chi actually is, it's officially defined as the ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.
While that may make it seem as if it's just a more intense meditation—which, can be the case in some situations—it's also something that many people use for self-defense. That said, it takes a ton of skill and discipline in order to do it, with the person practicing it trained to yield to an attacker rather than try to oppose him/her.
Anyway, there was a fight that went down in China between a tai chi master named Wei Lei and an MMA fighter named Xu Xiaodong—with Xiaodong absolutely beating the hell out of Lei in just 10 seconds.
Take a peek at the video.
Now, normally, this wouldn't be that big of a deal, right? I mean, one guy got pummeled by an opponent and he should just take it like a man. That's how it's supposed to go in the real world. Unfortunately, that's not what's happening in this case.
That's because, according to TodayOnline, Xu Xiaodong said that other kung fu masters have come at him, even challenging him to a fight to try and get some revenge over the embarrassment he gave to Wei Lei.
President of the Sichuan tai chi pushing hands research institute, Xing Lu, even went as far as saying that he wanted to “teach him a lesson."
“He is deeply biased against the traditional martial arts and his words were insulting. I challenged him so he could have a fresh perspective of tai chi and the true traditional martial arts,” said Lu, who specialises in a form of tai chi known as tuishou, or pushing hands.
Mr Lu said he was 80 per cent sure of winning the fight as tai chi masters had “iron fist, air foot and iron back, which need more than 20 years of hard practice”.
There may not be many great fights left to hope for, but seeing Xu Xiaodong take on every single tai chi master in China would be something I'd pay good money for.
