Looking for a new musician — who also happens to be gorgeous? Look no further than Jordan Michelle, a brunette stunner who's hoping to become a reincarnation of Gwen Stefani; who, here's a secret, happens to be her celebrity crush! Yep, Jordan has gotten our attention, so we just had to ask her about what's going on and what to expect with her career.
Being a musician is one of those things that we've all dreamt about at one point in our lives. Hell, even if you were a kid who played trombone during those awkward middle school days, there's a good chance stardom crossed your mind. Unfortunately, it's not easy to do, as talent, an unending drive and luck come in to play, among other factors. For Jordan Michelle, she has them all.
On a mission to absolutely rock the pop music world, Jordan Michelle is the new musician who wants to make it just a little bit, well, grungier. Mixing classic rock with raw emotion, dirty beats and guitar solos, Jordan's now set to release an upcoming single and, hopefully, album in 2018. With big things on the horizon, we got the chance to talk with Jordan about all things music — as well as a few other things that'll make you develop a major crush on her.
FHM: Tell Us A Bit About Your Background And How You Got Started In Music?
Jordan Michelle: "I majored in Journalism and Political Science, and planned to go to law school to become a political analyst. Music and performing have always been something I was drawn to, but always as a hobby, never something I considered as a realistic career option — the extent was jam sessions in the basement with my brother who was also a musician. Everything changed when my brother died of a heroin overdose. I was a senior in college and I realized that life was too short to ignore your true calling. It also hit me that his big break was never going to come, and mine still could. Through that grief it was so clear law school wasn’t my destiny and music was. I finished the year, got my bachelors degree and moved to L.A. blindly to 'figure it out.'"
FHM: We Know You Just Got Back From Europe, What Was That Trip All About?
Jordan Michelle: "So, when my roommate was planning to attend Milan fashion week, she asked me if I’d go; naturally, I said yes. It wasn’t all play though, it became a really productive trip with meetings and shoots, too, which was awesome."
FHM: What’s A Common Misconception About Female Artists That You Hear A Lot?
Jordan Michelle: "I think some people assume that, if you’re a woman and you’re beautiful, things just happen magically for you, and that the ride is easy, so you don’t have to be talented and that everything falls right into your lap. It’s still really f-cking hard work! If anything, it becomes a challenge to be taken seriously and respected as a woman in the arts."
FHM: Do You Write Your Own Music? If So, Where Does Your your own music? If so, Where Does Your Inspiration Come From?
Jordan Michelle: "I do write a lot on my own, but I also work with a team of writers, so it’s more of a collaboration. On my current project, I worked with Sebastian Kole; who is one of the most celebrated writers in the music industry right now. I'm inspired by my personal experiences. The thing I love most about making music is being able to take something so personal and make it something that moves people and makes them actually feel. Experiences I’ve had that most people relate to in some way, whether it’s love, loss, growing pains, etc.. All of my music comes from things I’ve lived and felt."
FHM: What's Your Favorite Piece Of Music You've Created Thus Far?
Jordan Michelle: "A song called ‘Alive.’ I feel like, as an artist, being real and raw is something that’s so important. I have had a lot of pain in the past few years and felt very alone. I needed to write a song that let people know that, if they feel this way, I’m with them."
FHM: What Are Some Of Your Current Favorites On Your Playlist?
Jordan Michelle: "I’m a rock chick at my core, so my constant staples are Green Day, Metallica, Incubus, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, RHCP, No Doubt, Sublime… I could go on and on. As far as new additions, I really love Halsey, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran. Oh, but 'Havana' by Camila Cabello is a definite banger."
FHM: With All The Travel You Do, Is It Tough To Date?
Jordan Michelle: "I mean… yes, definitely! But, at the same time, my lifestyle has always been like this, I don’t like to be in one place all the time, and it’s not like, if I wasn’t traveling, I’d be settled down playing house. I love my hectic lifestyle, it’s exciting. I feel like romance finds its way in when there is time, but I could never be with someone who couldn’t handle my crazy life!"
FHM: On That Topic, What’s One Thing That's Mandatory For You To Consider Going Out With A Guy?
Jordan Michelle: "I think it all comes down to chemistry. I think it’s pretty standard to lay out your 'type,' and be like, 'he needs to be driven, smart, funny, tall, handsome, and kind,' but, the truth is, when you have that undeniable spark of chemistry with someone, everything else goes out the window, so you can’t help who you fall for."
FHM: Any Celebrity Crushes?
Jordan Michelle: "Gwen Stefani, all day, every day, forever and always. She is the epitome of everything I could ever aspire to be. First of all, she is so hot. She has had an amazing career, is still killing it, has had a makeup line with Urban Decay and is the face of Revlon, multiple fashion lines, she’s a mom, created a children’s TV show and the list goes on; and managed to do all of that while staying pretty scandal free. She has embodied the exact artist who I want to be, she has so many ventures, she 'models,' and is a face for beauty, sexiness and fashion, but is still known for her music, first and foremost."
FHM: Since You Model And Sing, Do Your Prefer One Over The Other?
Jordan Michelle: "I think there are a lot of parallels to them, which is why I love them both so much. However, music is definitely my number one. When I don’t sing, I feel like a part of me isn’t there; writing and performing music is moving, there’s emotion, you’re literally telling a story. I don’t think there’s anything like it on the planet."
FHM: Besides Your Voice, What Do You Consider Your Sexiest Feature?
Jordan Michelle: "Definitely my eyes."
