Both Paris Hilton and Britney Spears are responsible for a multitude of important pop culture moments. That being said, the selfie is most definitely not one of them. In fact, a basic Google search will tell you that even though "selfie" was only added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2013, the first record self-portraiture was in 1839 — long before Paris Hilton said "that's hot" and Britney donned a plaid skirt and pigtails.
Despite this very clear information, Paris had her own ideas about the historical timeline of the selfie and she thought it would be a good idea to share them with Twitter. Of course, as with many celebrities on social media, Paris was relentlessly dragged. In retrospect, she was most likely joking. We're thinking that she meant the picture was so iconic that she and Britney could have easily invented the selfie altogether. However, it was too late. The damage was done and the responses were just too freakin' hilarious to pass up. Take a look:

In conclusion — we're sorry, Paris. Stick to catch phrases! The internet has spoken and you are NOT the father (of the selfie). We will say that even if you didn't invent the selfie, you certainly have perfect it and hell, that's even better! Keep doing you, lady.
