We're not kidding.
So, some bloke named Richard Luthmann, who is a qualified New York lawyer and an apparent Game Of Thrones fanatic, thought the best way to settle some fraud allegations against him would be a trial by combat. You know, one of those fight-to-the-death scenarios that decide whether or not a person is innocent.
This wouldn't be particularly newsworthy, aside from the fact that dealing with the law is actually his job. And in true lawyer fashion, he's already also detailed some of the history of a trial by combat, according to SILive.com.
Here's an actual excerpt from the from the civil suit:
"Defendant invokes the common law writ of right and demands his common law right to Trial By Combat as against Plaintiffs and their counsel, whom plaintiff wishes to implead into the Trial By Combat by writ of right."
Potential bloodbath aside, this guy passed the bar exam, he knows everything there is to be known about legalities in the criminal justice system. But apparently, he's up for a bit of decapitation to decide his reported fraud fate.
Er, alright then. What do you reckon - should trial by combat become an actual, non-fictional thing? Let us know below...
