Following his character Thurgood Jenkins in the 1998 cult classic Half Baked, along with his own Comedy Central show, The Chappelle Show, and, finally, a successful stand-up career, there are few people who don't know who Dave Chappelle is.
And while he may be a household name now, way back in 1993, he was just another struggling comedian who was looking for his one big break. That desire to make it led him to the TV show Star Search, where a 19-year-old Chappelle took the mic in hopes of entertaining the crowd.
Earning a perfect score from the judges for his comedy bit—beating some dude named Kevin Brennan—Chappelle has probably thought he had officially "made it" after this.
And while we all know Chappelle as one of the funniest men on the planet, it's pretty cool to see him in his early days where he was still grinding and, yes, was even booed off stage while performing at the Apollo Theater shortly after his move to New York to pursue a comedy career.
As an interesting side note to show how versatile of an actor/comedian Dave Chappelle is, he was offered, but turned down, the role of Bubba in the movie Forrest Gump, deciding that the role was demeaning and thinking the movie would bomb. Probably not the wisest career choice, but, hey, he's still doing pretty well for himself these days.
