Video game nerds, rejoice! Sega is pulling the ultimate MVP move by bringing all of your childhood favorites back to life and straight to your iPhone (or Android, blegh). Do you realize what this means? You can live out your boyhood dreams of playing video games on car rides, in the bathtub, hell, even at work! Don't even bother hiding it from your boss, I bet he'll be playing too! This is a huge game-changer. Pun absolutely intended.
According to The Verge—"Today the company announced a new service called Sega Forever, which is essentially a lineup of classic games from the company that will be available on both iOS and Android. Each game will be available for free — you can pay $1.99 to turn off ads — and will include modern features like cloud saves, Bluetooth controller support, and online leaderboards. (Sega notes, however, that you can still play each game offline.)
Take a look at the Forever Launch trailer—it's spectacularly corny, embodying the true look and feel of the late 80s/early 90s.
See what I mean? If I didn't know any better I'd say that came straight out of a time-vault! Ah, time sure does fly when you're forced to grow up and embrace responsibility against your free will.
Just to put it neatly the following five games will be available first, followed by additional titles biweekly—
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Comix Zone
- Altered Beast
- Kid Chameleon
- Phantasy Star II
Oh, did I mention this is all happening tomorrow?! Enjoy, fellas!
