It may have taken 76 years, but Wonder Woman finally stars in her own movie on June 2nd with Gal Gadot in the title role.
Even so, this is far from the character’s first filmed appearance. That honor actually belongs to a truly awful 1967 TV show starring Ellie Wood Walker that was taken in a campy sitcomy direction. Thankfully, things were destined to get better seven years later—but not by much!
Prior to Gadot, the actress who seemed most likely to bring Wonder Woman to filmed life was Adrianne Palicki (Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the forthcoming Seth MacFarlane sci-fi comedy, The Orville), who played the character in an NBC pilot that came oh so close to becoming a series. It was produced by David E. Kelley, creator of Amazon’s Goliath.
Gadot, of course, was cast by director Zack Snyder for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and she was considered a very strong highlight of that film. She’ll be reprising the role again this November in the live action feature Justice League.
But, between Ellie Wood Walker and the Gal Gadot, there have been plenty of other women tasked with playing Wonder Woman—so we figured we'd give you the names of them all as you anticipate the latest film's release.
