I think it's safe to say that Dr. Dre is quite possibly one of the most influential people in the music industry — ever. You can fight me on that, but frankly, the proof is in the pudding. He was a self-starter from day one, following his gut and vision, always having this insane barometer for what people want to listen to. Truly, he's an inspiration. Personal life and scandal aside, the man is an icon who not only garnered major success as an artist of his own, but by collaborating, pioneering, and ultimately discovering some serious talent in the business.
Of course, one of his more famous discoveries was Marshall Mathers, more famously known as Eminem. There's a solid chance that if you were a kid in the late 90's/early 2000s that Eminem was your life-blood. I actually can't think of a single boy or girl who wasn't completely obsessed with him. Which is sort of ironic considering how explicit his music was, but whatever, we all turned out okay, right! If anything, Eminem gave me a damn education and I thank him for that.
This rare, original footage above of how the ever-famous Dr. Dre discovered legendary rapper, Eminem, was taken from The Defiant Ones, an HBO documentary series that details the relationship between Dre and Jimmie Lovine as well as the number of icons they worked with. The pair is known for inspiring an entire generation of artists and there's a good chance that without them, the face of the modern music industry would look a whole lot different. The full documentary is available on HBO GO. I highly recommend giving it a watch if you're into music history.
