For those of you not too keen on automobile culture, you might not realize just how iconic the Toyota FJ40 Land Rover really is and that's fine! By the end of this article, you'll be an expert on the 1970s classic, and who knows, maybe you'll even consider snagging one for yourself. You might be wondering why anyone would want to purchase a car that's nearly 50 years old, but when you see what the company, ICON 4x4 has done to this bad boy, you'll understand.
The concept behind ICON 4X4 is pretty simple — they provide service, parts, and restoration for the classic Toyota 4x4 community. In honor of the company's tenth anniversary, they're rolling out something called, "The Old School Series".
“We have customers who love the ICON ethos but who don’t necessarily want to get drawn into a lengthy conversion about their vehicle every time they stop for gas,” explains company founder/Lead Designer Jonathan Ward. “Certain people prefer an understated, stock-appearing exterior but all of the modern performance and amenities. We’re launching the Old School Series to appeal to them.”
Sounds pretty freakin' awesome, if you ask us. Nowadays cars have gotten super flashy, it's refreshing to see a company provide a new take on classic rides that never go out of style. Below you'll find a video featuring the FJ40 that explains all the new features (while still maintaining the integrity of the original).
If you're interested in getting your hands on one of ICON's Old School Land Cruisers, it will be offered in all four existing body styles: FJ40, FJ43, FJ44 and FJ45. Also, the Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel conversion will be available on both traditional and Old School ICON FJs.
