FHM’s 100 Greatest Games of All Time

Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Year: 1986
Platform: Master System

Why it’s a classic: Though the Master System’s mascot didn’t generate the sales of Mario and co, this was still SEGA’s biggest pre-Sonic platformer. And unlike Nintendo’s portly plumber, he saw off baddies by bonking them in the face with his massive fist. Brutal.

Best bit: While beating a modern end-of-level foe generally means impaling them on some sort of massive, metal implement, things weren’t always so gratuitous. This saw you facing off with bosses over heated games of rock, paper, scissors.
