FHM’s 100 Greatest Games of All Time

Arkanoid

Year: 1986
Platform: Commodore 64

Why it’s a classic: Breakout may have been the original paddle-and-ball-‘em-up, but, ten years later, Taito beat Atari at their own game. How? They included power-ups, a tenuous sci-fi storyline and a boss with a massive head. Simple.

Best bit: When the little ball inexplicably gets stuck behind the bricks at the top of the screen, bouncing around like sugar-addled toddler and doing all the hard work for you.
