What’s it about? Stranded on a distant planet, you assume the role of one of four characters, each with their own story, skills and quests. Which will invariably involve wasting massive monsters. It’s heavily inspired by the Mad Max films, and the sprawling, post-apocalyptic wastelands bear more than a passing resemblance to Fallout 3. But it’s all delivered with a dark, tongue-in-cheek sense of humour.

Coolest feature? Like guns? Developers Gearbox Software claim the finished game will feature over 500,000 (yup, half a million) different weapons. The variety is all down to a unique ‘content generation system’ built into the game’s engine, which also randomises landscape scenery and enemies’ physical attributes. So yeah – it’s going to be mental.

When? It’s out for Xbox, PS3 and PC on October 23.
